I'm Not There to Train Your Dog I'm There to Change the Way You Think About Them

I'm Not There to Train Your Dog. I'm There to Change the Way You Think About Them.

September 09, 2026

When people come to a dog trainer, they often expect the trainer to fix the dog.

They want the pulling to stop. The barking to stop. The recall to improve. The reactivity to disappear.

But what if the biggest change doesn’t need to happen in the dog? What if it needs to happen in the way you understand your dog?

Understanding Comes Before Change

My job isn’t simply to tell you what to do with your dog. It’s to show you what you’re missing. Why does the behaviour keep happening? Why does your dog respond the way they do? What are they learning from the way you interact with them every single day?

Once you understand those things, your dog’s behaviour starts to make a lot more sense. Instead of constantly reacting to the latest problem, you can start recognising the patterns behind it.

Your Dog Is Learning From You Every Day

Training doesn’t only happen during a scheduled session. It happens on the walk. It happens when someone comes through the front door. It happens when your dog pulls towards something. It happens when they demand attention. It happens when you call them, and they don’t come.

Every interaction is an opportunity for your dog to learn. And that means your relationship is being shaped every single day — whether you’re consciously working on it or not.

Then the Responsibility Comes Back to You

I can show you what to look for. I can demonstrate how to communicate more effectively. I can explain why a particular behaviour is happening and give you the tools to address it. But then it's on you.

Your timing. Your consistency. Your boundaries. Your communication. Your actions.

Because I can’t be there every time your dog makes a decision. You are. That’s why teaching the human is just as important as teaching the dog.

Consistency Is Where the Real Work Happens

A dog can make incredible progress during a training session. But if the rules change when you get home, the clarity disappears. Lasting change comes from what happens between the sessions, not just during them.

I Don’t Create Change For You

I don’t create change for you. I give you the understanding and the tools to create it yourself. Because the ultimate goal of good dog training shouldn’t be to make you dependent on a trainer. It should be to make you more capable as a dog owner.

That’s What Good Dog Training Should Do

A well-trained dog is fantastic. But a knowledgeable, confident owner is even more valuable. When both sides of the relationship change, you stop simply managing problems and start building something that lasts.

It shouldn’t just change your dog. It should change the way you think about your dog.
